Artist’s Statement
My current practice uses time-based and installation pieces to further enquiries into the spatio-temporal and theatrical elements of contemporary art practice. By creating nonlinear, non-narrative digital videos, small-scale projections and multi-channel user-generated audio pieces that encourage critical thinking and invoke a heightened sense of self-reflection, I aim to examine the way audience participation relates the viewer to their present environment by employing a rhetoric of media-oriented ‘electroacoustics’ to transcend the traditional viewing space, and the values attributed to it in a return to the discovery of the ‘unique encounter’.
These visual and acoustical elements interrupt and augment navigable, perceptible spaces, forging an amplified relationship between body and architecture both spatially and temporally, thereby raising questions about our relationship towards techno-media and its continuing evolution and integration within our daily lives as a means not only of informing, but of self-tracking, and auto-archiving.
