Due to the demands of my current heavy work schedule, I am finding myself increasingly confined to exhibition spaces of a digital nature. These are not only temporally convenient, but also more cost effective modes of communicating my work to others in the ether. It follows an increase in the production of art specifically intended for online exhibition, art which has found its place in the spaces of the world wide web, and whose specific qualities translate most effectively to the tools of display, of playback, and of sharing.
My own work is becoming ever-more conscious of this intended destination, as I begin to work through concepts of self-tracking, social media, and archivisation. Notions of presence, of absorption, and of perception within the realm of the digital, and the impenetrable screen, are further realised in the continuing exploitation of time as a key component in these exploratory pieces.
The House Project is my next attempt at staging an online exhibition, this time centered around a singular space, with works being created in as well as about it. It requires the translation of a physical space, into a digital one, in ways which allow the ‘visitor’ to experience uniquely their own interpretations of the artist’s lived experience in an intimate environment.
